Our drop in sessions:
You are always welcome to join us at Shalford Village Hall (Kings Road, Shalford, GU4 8BQ) on the third Thursday of every month usually 2.30-4.00 pm. (This can vary due to the speaker’s availability). There is no need to book but please be aware that very rarely the speaker’s availability may change so if you are coming to hear a particular talk please email us first.
All are welcome including friends, family and carers. If it feels a bit daunting get in touch and one of the team can meet you beforehand. As well as a speaker you will also have an opportunity to meet other members over a free cup of tea or coffee and sometimes home made cake. and don’t worry if you don’t fancy eating or drinking everyone will understand. There are normally no meetings in June, July and August.
We also arrange talks and activities, details of which will be posted on the website- have a look at the events page. They are also emailed to members…so please ask to be added to our mailing list.

Lorraine Brown our Specialist Lymphoedema Nurse at the Beacon Centre has kindly agreed to be our speaker at Shalford Village Hall
The committee would like to congratulate Lorraine as she has been nominated for the Chronic Oedema Nurse of the Year Award.
Thursday 2.30 on 19th March 2026
Our speaker will be Sarah Meers from ZLegsl Services. The talk will be on Lasting Power of Attorney. The session will provide practical guidance on planning ahead, protecting family interests and the financial implications involved.
Members will be given an Q& A opportunity.

Our charity has recently made a donation of £1000 to a research project based at the University of Surrey. It is investigating new bio markers and treatment for head and neck cancer.
Dr. Hannah Bolland has kindly agreed to update the group on this research project at this meeting. Please come along and learn more about this exciting work.

2025:
March 20th: there will be a session led by Matt, one of our members who is highly skilled in teaching first aid and resuscitation.
April 17 th: Gemma Harris an Oncology Physiotherapist and founder of the Cancer Rehab Collective, has kindly agreed to attend our meeting . A very experienced practitioner she will show us some exercise routines followed by a Q& A session.Numerous studies have shown the beneficial effects of Physiotherapy interventions. Cancer and its treatment can result in impairments with assistance from your Physiotherapist patients can again engage in the activities of daily life .
May 15th: The Upper Hall ( Shalford Village Hall site)
We have been moved to The Upper Hall for this meeting. Tamara Kahn is the CEO of Oracle, they are the leading Head & Neck charity in the U.K.
Tamara will discuss the work of this charity and a Q & A opportunity will be available following talk.
June 19th: Debbie Heaney has kindly agreed to be our tutor for the Qigong session which starts at 3.30 pm at Shalford Village Hall.
Qigong is a system of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing and meditation. It is said to be useful for the purpose of health and spirituality.
September 18th: Lorraine Brown a Specialist Lympoedema Nurse who is based at the RSCH will be coming to talk about this often distressing side effect of treatment. This is an area a number of people have asked about in the past, so even if you are not a regular attender please come along.There will also be a Q&A opportunity for members.
October 16th: Dr Hannah Bolland from the School of Biosciences at the University of Surrey is going to talk to the group about her research project that is investigating new biomarkers and treatment for head and neck cancer. There will be an opportunity to discuss her research and ways to become involved including a possible visit to her laboratory at a later date. This is one way we can help more people who might be affected by Head and Neck Cancer in the future. So, even if you are not a regular attender please come along to find out more and support this vital research
